MATCHUP ONE

1) The #WHAMSAUCE collision took the world by storm when Taylor McLaughlin came barreling across the finish line in the 400m Final at New Balance Nationals Indoor, running full speed into the volunteer holding the finish line tape. The volunteer dropped the tape and after an effort to pick the tape back up, she attempted to make her way off the track. Her effort failed and McLaughlin and the poor lady went airborne. Our own Jimmy Stevenson was on call and said, "He just WHAMSAUCED the meet crew!" Dozens of other media outlets from across the globe picked this gem up including ESPN and some sources from Australia and Japan.

2) Destiny Collins entered the CIF State Finals (California State Meet) as the favorite to win the 1600m. A year ago, she disastrously fell during the 1600m and faltered to a second place finish. This year, she stayed on her feet in the 1600m but placed even worse than last year, getting outkicked for third. After not coming through as the favorite in her favorite event, Collins stepped back on the track for the 3200m later that day. Instead of getting outkicked, she dropped the hammer on the then-US #1 in Fiona O'Keeffe for a new US #1 9:53.79 (#9 all-time).

MATCHUP TWO

1) Chad Zallow entered New Balance Nationals Indoor as the favorite for the 60m Hurdles. He was running out of his mind at the end of February into the beginning of March. In a race that couldn't get any closer, Holloway nipped favorite Zallow at the line. Both boys ran 7.59 exactly with tremendous leans at the finish line. Zallow fell after he crossed the finish line and did a complete forward roll. The time was a National Junior Class Record for Holloway and US #2 all-time. Zallow, only a few thousandths of a second slower, ran a US #3 all-time mark.

2) Some thought Grant Fisher was unbeatable at the high school level. He did not lose a race for the entirety of his junior and senior seasons . . . until June 20, 2015. With 400m left in the Brooks PR 2 Mile, Fisher and junior Drew Hunter separated themselves from the field. Either the favorite would win or the young Hunter would shock the masses. With 200m to go, Fisher attempted to make a move by going around Hunter on the outside. Hunter held him off there and the rest of the final curve before dropping Fisher on the final homestretch. Hunter ran a US #9 all-time with his 8:42.51, proving that Fisher can be beat by a fellow US high schooler.

MATCHUP THREE

1) February 7, 2015 was a great day for Deakin Volz. He set a National Record in the pole vault in his home state with a jump of 17-10.5. Later that day, across the country in New Mexico, Paulo Benavides had an even greater day. He jumped a mere half inch higher than Volz to break the hours old pole vault National Record, clearing 17-11 on arguably the most historic day of high school pole vaulting ever.

2) At the Florida Middle School State Championships, 8th grader Tyrese Cooper not only swept the sprint triple with but set three new meet records in the 100m (10.61), 200m (21.26) and 400m (47.76) to get the entire nation talking. At the time, his 200m ranked US #16 against all US high schoolers.

MATCHUP FOUR

1) After winning NXN six years in a row then losing to Wayzata, MN in 2013, the Fayetteville-Manlius girls cross country squad showed up to a sloppy Glendoveer Golf Course looking to bring the big metal star back to New York. They accomplished that feat and sweetened the deal as their boys team captured their first NXN title. December 6, 2014 marks the first time ever where the same school won NXN on both the boys and girls side, thanks to the legendary Head Coach Bill Aris (pictured above).

2) April 16, 2015 was a historic moment for high jumpers across the nation. At the Mt. SAC Relays, junior Vashti Cunningham broke the HJ National Record by a quarter inch with her 6-4.25 clearance. The famous sign at Mt. SAC that reads, "where the world's best athletes compete," continues to hold true. The previous record was shared by five-time Olympian Amy Acuff (1993) and Toni Young (2009).
