Gregorek Competing At Worlds on Thursday

Bay Stater interested in the IAAF World Track and Field Championships this week may want to pay particular attention to what's happening on Thursday.

It's this day that former Seekonk High standout Johnny Gregorek will be competing in his qualifying heat of the 1,500-meter run. Gregorek earned his berth to London with his dramatic third-place finish at the USATF Track and Field Championships on June 24, a race he was in tenth place with a lap remaining.

Just a few weeks after his memorable run at the USATF meet, Gregorek ran his all-time best of 3:35 for 1,500m when he won the TrackTown USA Championships at Icahn Stadium in New York. A similar effort like that could place the Massachusetts native high down in London.

The 1,500m heats at the Worlds are scheduled to begin at 3:25 p.m. EST.
