Fiamoncini Reflects On Great Start To College Career

Maura Fiamoncini wasted no time making her impact felt at the next level.

The former Mount Carmel Area standout and current Bucknell University freshman is only midway through her first season in the NCAA, but the javelin thrower has already shattered her program's school record and moved up well on some notable lists.

Fiamoncini opened up competition at Susquehanna University's Jim Taylor Invitational, where she threw 184 feet, 5 inches (56.21 meters), breaking the Bucknell school record by 25 feet. That throw was also good enough for the No. 2 throw by an American Junior woman, just a foot and three inches off Madison Wiltrout's U.S. Junior record of 185 feet, 5 inches (56.59 meters) from 2015 (also a national high school record). Currently, Fiamoncini sits at No. 3 in the entire NCAA.

She followed up that performance with wins at the Virginia Quad (168-05.25) and the Bucknell Outdoor Classic (178-02.5). Fiamoncini was a two-time PIAA Class-AA state champion in the javelin. Her high school best was 160 feet, which she threw to take second to Wiltrout at last year's Penn Relays.

PTXC's Phil Grove talked with Fiamoncini at this past weekend's Bucknell Bison Outdoor Invitational. Check out the interview above.
