EPISCOPAL'S ADA MERE (5) COMPETES IN THE 4X800 AT THE CLASS 2A STATE OUTDOOR MEET
Here are the finalists for MileSplit LA Girls' Outdoor Athlete of the Year. The finalists made this ballot by winning MileSplit LA Performer Of The Week Polls throughout the 2024 season. Now, we take the weekly winners and see who will be the MileSplit LA Girls' Outdoor Athlete Of The Year. Congratulations to all of the finalists.
ADDYSON HULETT (BENTON)-- The senior, who is headed to Dallas Baptist University, began her assault on the Benton record book early with her performance in the 400m at the Shamocus Patton Relays--Benton's home meet. She then continued to lower that mark throughout the season. She was the District 1-5A champion in the event and the Region 1-5A runner-up with a season best 56.63. She also found success in the pole vault where she won four meets in 2024 including the District 1-5A championships with a jump of 9-6.
KALEIGH KING (QUITMAN)--King won four of five 300m hurdles races this season. Her final victory came as she claimed her first state championship on Thursday, May 2nd running a time of 52.95. She also won five of her first six races in the 100m hurdles. Although she did not run the time she wanted at state, you can expect this freshman to be a force in the Class B hurdle events for the next three years.
MADISON BAILEY (HAHNVILLE)--Won seven of her first eight 400m races during the 2024 season. At the LHSAA State Outdoor Championships she finished as the runner-up to Barbe's Kennedi Burks, who broke the LHSAA composite record in the event. Bailey's time o 55.17 was a personal record. Bailey also had success in the 200m, where she won her first four races of the season. Her best performance in the event came at the Region 3-5A Meet where she finished as the runner-up with personal record 25.23.
MADISON JACKSON (VIDALIA)--Finished third in both the 100m hurdles and 300m hurdles at the LHSAA Class 2A State Outdoor Championships. She had a time of 15.59 in the 100m hurdles and ran a 47.17 in the 300m hurdles. Her season best in the events were 15.13 and 46.83.
LUCY QUINTANA (MT. CARMEL)--Quintana qualified for the LHSAA Class 5A State Outdoor Meet in both the 1600m and 3200m. She finished fifth in the 1600m with a 5:16.47. In the 3200m, she finished seventh with an 11:48.19. Unlike many of the runners who finished ahead of her at the LHSAA Class 5A State Outdoor Meet, Quintana has two more year of eligibility. At the Region 3-5A Meet, Quintana was the runner-up in both events.
ADA MERE (EPISCOPAL)-- If we gave out awards for Eighth Grader Of The Year, Mere would be a lock! She finished as the runner-up of the 1600m and 3200m at the LHSAA Class 2A State Outdoor Meet. Mere ran a time of 5:11.89 in the 1600m and had a 11:31.75 in the 3200m. It's going to fun to watch this incredibly talented young lady continue to progress over the next four years.
DILLON LANDRY (ST. JOSEPH'S Baton Rouge)--There was never a meet during 2024 season where Dillon Landry did not make the podium in the 100m. And the only time she didn't make the podium in the 200m was at the 2024 LHSAA Class 5A State Outdoor Championships. Landry did what all coaches want their athletes to do--run their best times when it counts--at the LHSAA State Outdoor Meet. Landry had a wind aided 11.81 in the 100m to finish third. She also finished fifth in the 200m with a season best of 24.97.
KEELEI DORSEY (LAFAYETTE)-- Won the 800m at the Region 1-5A Meet, fighting off her teammate to do so. It was performances like that which helped her Lady Lions win regionals for the first time since 2018.
