College Bloggers: Erzsebet Nagy (Middlebury College)

Erzsie’s College Running Blog #1

Erzsebet Nagy will be a freshman at Middlebury College in the fall. Nagy had a very succesful high school running career that ended this spring with 3 individual state title (1600,800, 3200). Nagy is the Maine All-time record holder for 800m with a 2:13.50 clocking. Follow along as Nagy chronciles her summer xc training as she preps for her first collegiate season.

Hey everyone! This will be my first blog of summer 2013, written as an upcoming freshman at Middlebury College. I will talk about my training in later blogs, but since I have been graduated for over a month now (whaaaaat?!), I really want to share a little adventure with the running community that I took on the day of graduation.

After the state track meet, there was less than a week until graduation (crazy to believe!). My best friend and training partner, Sawyer Letourneau, and I had been planning to run 13 miles the morning of graduation since we were the class of 2013. Also, we weren’t able to run the Augusta Rail Trail Half Marathon this summer, so this 13 miler was a good substitute (and much more relaxing-wait no it wasn’t just kidding). That meant I couldn’t immediately take a week off after states, so I kept running in addition to the endless hours of marching practice.

On Thursday morning, Sawyer and I woke up at 4 o’clock to run the 13 mile course that we had measured out in his car (and then I double checked on Map My Run, just to be sure we covered every single inch). Our route was a combination of all our usual runs that we had done over our high school career, so it was all very bittersweet and nostalgic (well, maybe the first 9 miles when we could still feel our legs). Also, I do not advise anyone to run on the River Trail when it is dark outside because it is quite horrifying!

Amazingly enough, the two of us made it through the senior breakfast, graduation, and project grad (staying up until 5 the following morning) with enough energy to do bazillions of backflips on the trampolines in the antigravity center at Sugarloaf! I returned home at about 6 in the morning and slept until noon, the latest I have slept all summer. High school graduation is memorable in itself, but the addition of running with my best friend really put it over the top, and I highly recommend it to the class of 2014!
